Winnington Park Ladies 5 Bowdon 3rds 0
PROLIFIC striker Karen Morgan proved too four-ceful for Bowdon.
But the glut of goals was started after just five minutes by Jo Cash. Then Morgan took over. A reverse stick followed by a clinical finish to Eileen Miller’s precision pass made it 3-0.
She netted again before the break – and just after.
Winnington's defence again performed solidly and debut goalkeeper Sarah Jackson made some impressive saves.
Park’s inexperienced 2nds twice trailed to Timperley 3rds sheet, but Ellie Capstick equalised each time in a 2-2 draw.
Saturday: 1st home v Whitchurch (11.30am), 2nds away v Bowdon 4ths.
Northern 1 Winnington Park 0: Park were edged out in a tight, scrappy start to their league season.
The visitors’ best chances fell to Alastair Buckle, his first effort beating the goalkeeper but drifting wide of the far post from an acute angle. His second was a trademark deflection the home ’keeper managed to touch wide.
The only goal of the game came early in the first half. A free hit from outside the Winnington circle was deflected past goalkeeper John-Paul Dodd. Park tried to pull themselves back into it but they could not break through. Man of the match Steve Campagnaro was the Cheshire men's main threat but they were hindered by the sin-binning of centre back Mark Leigh.
Mike Dodd, John Stackhouse and Colin Booth all scored but Park 2nds lost 5-3 at home to Knutsford.
