THREE Northwich Rowing Club crews will represent the North West at the National Championships following the regional junior time trials on the River weaver on Saturday.

All three are boys crews, namely: 18s coxed four Matthew Evans, Peter Morton, Fraser Dodd, Daniel Edge, cox Andrew Morrison; 16s coxed four Tom Curwell, Jack Palmer, George Clarke, Peter Tolson, cox Andrew Morrison; 16s coxless four Alex Riddell, Max Andrews, George Clarke, Jack Palmer.

The event, held in blustery conditions, was staged over a 1,500m course with Northwich welcoming crews aged between 13-18 from 12 clubs. The Inter-Regional Championships are in April.

Trentham RC was the most successful club with six wins spread across three divisions.

Northwich girls in the U16s crew were beaten by The Grange, Hartford, by just 1.1 second.

Meanwhile, Northwich’s Women’s Senior III eight travelled to London for the Tideway Head of River Race – a gruelling 4½ miles from Mortlake to Putney, attracting 236 crews from across the UK and Europe.

The women had a hard fought race and were pleased with their strong row having battled with choppy water conditions caused by cross and tail winds. They completed the course in 21mins 49.74secs finishing 119th.

In the boat were Marie Farrow, Nicola Smith, Ellen Preece, Kerry Briggs, Alison Reed, Clare Briegal, Margaret Case Melanie Wakefield and cox Jonty Moore.

Northwich will compete in the North of England Head of the River Race on the River Dee at Chester on Saturday.
