A WREXHAM teenager was told by a crown court judge that he was the sort of drunken yob people did not like to see around town at any time, day or night.

Aaron Bielby, 19, was told by Judge Huw Daniel that he had 'better brighten himself up.'

Bielby of Pont-yr-Afon in Penycae, was originally charged with robbing another youth of his mobile telephone in Wrexham town centre.

That charge was left on the file after he admitted stealing the telephone - and he was ordered to carry out unpaid work for the community.

Mold Crown Court heard that, through no fault of his own, he could not do the community work, and the judge substituted a community rehabilitation order.

But he warned Bielby he would ask for regular reports on his progress and would monitor him closely.

'If you step out of line you will come back here before me,' the judge said, and warned it would then be custody.

The judge said Bielby drank too much at a time when he could not hold it, and said he would also follow an alcohol awareness programme.

Prosecuting barrister Maria Masseles said the theft occurred in the early hours one day in February when the complainant stopped in a shop doorway to make a telephone call.

He became aware of someone behind him and there was an incident when his telephone was stolen.

He was able to flag down a passing police car.

The telephone was found nearby, in the rear car park of a public house.
