LLANGEFNI Town’s naive defending was blasted by manager Adie Jones for contributing towards the newcomers’ five-goal home calamity against Llanelli.

Chris Jones hit back for Cefni on 54 minutes after Llanelli went ahead through Andrew Mumford and Mark Pritchard in the first half.

But Rhys Griffiths extending the lead with two headed goals before Mumford made it five.

Jones fumed: “The defenders did not do the simple things, like clearing the ball properly, and man-marking was non-existent too often.

“I keep playing the same old record telling them what to do, and they take no notice and just go on making the same basic mistakes, which are being punished such as with a loose clearance with two minutes left.

“We have now conceded 13 goals in our four league games and all at home at that,” he added. “It simply is not good enough.

“Going forward, we looked quite sharp. That was fine, but defensively we just could not defend – and in this league we are not playing the likes of Bodedern, Glantraeth or Holyhead any more.”

Llangefni had enjoyed two bright spells at the start of each half, initially when they carried the play into Llanelli territory and later when Jones briefly trimmed the deficit.
