THIS is the brave smile that has won the hearts of the people across Mid Cheshire.
Our Young Champion of the Year is six-year-old Jacob Marsland, who lives at Kingsmead, Northwich.
Plucky Jacob is irrepressible – with a zest for life that others can only marvel at.
He suffers from Neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer, which has seen him in and out of hospital since he was diagnosed last year.
Now, after intensive courses of chemotherapy, he’s in remission – but friends and family say it’s hard to tell....
Because, throughout everything, Jacob has shown amazing resilience and courage.
He’s never let his illness get him down.
His mum Nicky says: “We’ve never heard him complain once about being treated, examined, operated on, nor about any of the nasty side-effects of his treatment.
“Whatever is required of him, Jacob just gets on with it without question and he has never stopped smiling.”
In the past 18 months, Jacob managed just three half-days at his old school, Hartford Manor Primary, in between treatments.
Although he is still taking oral medication and needs a feeding tube to help his body receive essential nutrients, he was able to enrol at his new school, Kingsmead Primary in September this year.
