OUR recent troubles have shown just how important unity is at lower league level, so let's hope as many of us as possible make the short trip to Macclesfield tomorrow.

They, like us, are another club let down by mis-management. They need to find £300,000 to pay off a fine placed upon them by the FA for mis-use of grant money by the previous regime at Moss Rose.

Since Jean-Michel Bosman decided to turn football on its head and make the rich richer, a club simply can't sell assets to pay off such a debt.

Instead it's up to the loyal fans to make sure lower league football clubs don't go out of business. We owe it to Macclesfield to boost the gate as much as possible.

As I keep saying, the day will come when football fans get tired of paying exortionate ticket prices to watch Premiership football.

They'll want to come back and support clubs closer to home. That's why we must make sure they survive.

On the pitch, things are really looking up. The win against Wycombe was a fantastic performance, with everyone playing their part.

Jim Whitley showed what we have been missing over the last year, Matt Crowell's first half was the best football he's played for the club, likewise young Levi Mackin when he came on.

In attack we took our customary spate of injuries, but Mark Jones may not be out for as long as we feared.

And we've brought in Matt Derbyshire, of whom great things are expected.
