WREXHAM Football Club may well have to go into administration to stay alive.

But at what price - given new League rules which would see North Wales' top team become the first to be 'fined' 10 points to add to its already substantial woes? Surely that would be merely kicking the club when it's down.

In a country where the underdog so frequently gains popular support one would suspect sympathy - and backing - for the Dragons would escalate.

Rules are rules. However such a harsh one would seem to fly in the face of natural justice. Yes, it has often been claimed in recent years that clubs have gained an advantage by going into administration while others struggle to survive within their very limited budgets.

But if Wrexham go down this troublesome road it will be through absolute necessity - a bitter pill that would have to be swallowed to survive. Surely football has not become so dog-eat-dog that other clubs would want to see Wrexham die.
