POLICE in Northwich are confident of catching thieves behind a fresh spate of car break-ins over the weekend.
Four Ford Focuses had front windows smashed and stereos stolen, prompting detectives to dispatch crime scene investigators (CSIs) in an attempt to catch the crooks.
Three vehicles were targeted on the Kingsmead estate but police did not say if they were linking the crimes.
The first break-in happened between 8pm on Friday, October 10 and 10pm on Saturday at Blakemere Drive. The next offence occurred overnight on Saturday at Sproston Way, and the third on Monarch Drive between 12noon-10pm on Sunday.
The fourth theft happened at Townshend Road, Lostock Gralam at approximately 11pm on Saturday.
Insp Pete Minghella, head of Northwich Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: “At the moment we’ve got our CSIs looking for fingerprints or any traces the offenders might have left behind. All our resources are going into finding the people responsible.”
In August 2007 a Leftwich man was jailed for four months after admitting breaking into more than a dozen Focuses to steal the radios. Insp Minghella wants to ensure those behind the recent surge of similar offences are caught early.
