PROMOTING internet safety is a top priority for Cheshire police and recently they stopped a teenage girl boarding a plane to meet a man she had met online.
Fortunately for the teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, her friends were aware of the possible dangers of meeting up with someone under such circumstances and they told a teacher.
“The girl was speaking to somebody and he sent her a plane ticket,” says PC Jane Commins.
“Her friends knew about it and were worried and went to a teacher. The school phoned the police.
“Police went to Manchester Airport and stopped her getting on the plane.”
Cheshire Police have nothing but praise for the girl’s friends, saying they acted responsibly.
“If anyone thinks their friends are doing something like this, speaking to somebody they shouldn’t be, they must tell an adult they trust immediately,” added Jane.
