AN OLYMPIC torch-bearer paid an inspiring visit to an Ellesmere Port primary school.

Ahead of Friday’s opening ceremony, which will kick-start the first Olympic Games on British soil since 1948, Olympic torch-bearer Paul Gavin visited The Acorns Primary School on Friday to thank the children for all their hard work raising funds for his charity Bone Cancer Research.

The 23-year-old from Runcorn had run with the torch in Rhuddlan, North Wales.

He was diagnosed with cancer in 2007 and while at Alder Hey Children Hospital would cheer up the youngsters, and help them through their treatment. He has spoken as a patient at doctors and nurses conferences and raised £30,000 for Bone Cancer Research Trust, and is also a volunteer for the Ellen McArthur Cancer Trust.

The Acorns has now raised more than £2,000 for many good causes this year.
