WHEN school is out pupils of Ysgol Rhiwabon are strutting their stuff in a new street dance workshop.

Almost 50 girls crowded in the school gym to show off their moves in the first of a series of street and break dance classes, set up to promote fitness in school.

The workshops, led by North East Wales dancer and choreographer Zoey Corbett, are held from 3.10pm until 4.10pm, every Wednesday, as part of the PE and School Sport initiative, led by the Sports Council for Wales.

The nationwide programme is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and aims to improve the delivery of PE, making it more innovative and encouraging joint working and sharing of resources between schools and colleges.

Claire Ballamy, PE teacher at Ysgol Rhiwabon, said the first taster session went down a storm with girls from years 7 and 8.

'I was extremely pleased with the response we have had and the enthusiasm of the girls taking part. Street dance is proving to be very popular in the school,' she said.
