NORTH Wales Police Authority has a new chairman.

Wynnstay Labour councillor Malcolm King has stepped down and been replaced by Independent Chirk North councillor Ian Roberts.

The Police Authority provides a civilian voice for the police to work with and answer to and undertakes duties such as appointing chief constables.

Cllr Roberts has been a member of the Police Authority since 1999.

He said: 'I would like to thank Cllr King for his unstinting dedication over the past five years. Over the coming year my intention is that we build on his success to ensure North Wales remains one of the safest places to live.'
