A DEVOTED husband has paid a lasting tribute to his late wife.

Barry Russell has presented a hoist to Nightingale House Hospice, where his wife Susanne spent her final days.

He said the gift was appropriate as she had spent a lifetime nursing others.

Susanne, who was 60, was diagnosed with a brain tumour seven years ago.

She made a full recovery, but was taken ill with a second tumour while the couple were on holiday in the USA and Canada. She died a month later.

Barry, of Tram Road, Buckley, said: 'Susanne spent the last couple of weeks of her life at the hospice.

'Staff were absolutely wonderful with her, I can't praise them enough.'

Susanne was locality manager for Mold, Flint and Holywell hospitals before she was forced to give up work.

Donations at her funeral totalled £880, and Barry, a retired welder and fabricator, added £1,000 to buy the hoist.

His gesture has fulfilled Susanne's wish for a piece of equipment to be donated in her memory.

Hospice community fundraiser Louise Elliott said: 'We are grateful to Barry for donating this money, which has enabled us to buy this vital piece of kit.

'We would also like to thank the friends and family of Susanne.'
