LEE HUNT thanked Rhyl’s fans after he was awarded the Phil Stanley Memorial Trophy last night.

The Lilywhites striker was voted the Welsh Premier’s Player of the Year by Daily Post readers to win the award, presented in association with league sponsors Principality Building Society.

Hunt, who has scored 16 goals from just 21 appearances this term, said: “The fans have always been great to me so I’m grateful for this.”

The 25-year-old was the runaway winner in the voting for the Phil Stanley Memorial Trophy, named in honour of the Daily Post correspondent who covered sport in North Wales for many years.

Hunt’s club-mate, midfielder Connal Murtagh, and Welshpool defender Paul Dowridge were joint second.

Eric Lewis, of Llanfairfechan, was one of many readers who voted for Hunt.

“He never gives up and he’s a 90-minute player,” said Mr Lewis.
