THE Sport Relief Mile started at the Racecourse ground on Saturday.

Wrexham Football Club and Fitness First held the fundraising event as part of the club's open day.

The Racecourse became a real race-course as hundreds of runners registered for the one-mile charity race, including MP Ian Lucas.

The runners began the race wearing one odd red sock and were only presented with its pair when they had completed the course.

'It was great to have a Sport Relief event in Wrexham and I would like to thank the organisers for taking it on,' said Mr Lucas. 'I also hope that this nationwide effort is successful in raising money for disadvantaged children everywhere, as well as encouraging us to get fit.'
