Rhyl 0 Caernarfon Town 0

RHYL manager John Hulse believes strength and unity can pull his side out of their worst slump since he took over the reins at Belle Vue six years ago.

Hulse has scooped seven trophies during a successful spell in charge of the Lilywhites, but Saturday’s shock home draw with rock-bottom Caernarfon meant they have now gone four games without a win in all competitions.

“It’s the biggest blip we’ve had since I’ve been here,” said Hulse.

“But all we can do is keeping working hard towards that elusive win I’m sure will turn things around.

“A lot of confidence has gone out of the side. I don’t think the month’s break (before the end of January) did us any favours. But I’ve told the players they’ve got to stick together and battle through this. For all our recent disappointments we’re still second in the table.”

Caernarfon, who picked up their first point in seven meetings with the Lilies, made the better start at Belle Vue.

Defender Lee Bamber was denied by the legs of keeper John Gann early on.

Top scorer Lee Hunt went close with a diving header for the home side before the end of an uninspiring first half.

Early in the second period Town were unlucky not to win a penalty after Paul Addo was sent sprawling in the area by Connall Murtagh following a dynamic run from just outside his own box.

Ross Stephens fired wide for Rhyl and the hosts nearly stole it in injury time when substitute Andy Moran’s overhead kick cleared the bar by inches.
