Runners of all abilities in Helsby will be lacing up their trainers this weekend to raise money for charity - and you could join them.

The village is hosting its own Sport Relief mile on Sunday (March 20) in line with runs across the country.

Individual one, three and six-mile runs will be taking place so all abilities can have fun and there is still time to sign up and get involved.

Organiser George Randles said: “We are delighted so many people have already signed up.

“But we want even more people in Helsby and the surrounding community to take part and make it the best Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile yet.

“So let’s show the rest of the country what we can do and raise as much money as we possibly can for this incredible cause.”

How to get involved

Helsby Running Club has designed the mile’s route, with the start at Helsby Community Sports Club set for 2pm for the ‘milers’ and 2.15pm for those running the three-mile or six-mile races.

There will also be a chance to view the exciting plans for the relocated sports club which include a new running track.

Entry fees are £7 for adults, £3 for children and £17 for families (two adults and two children).

Sport Relief runs nationally across March 18-20, with miles, swims and other sporting events taking place up and down the country.

A night of special TV will be hosted by the BBC on Friday as part of the fundraising effort, with the money going towards changing lives for the better in the poorest communities in the UK and around the world.
