CRACKSHOT Ian Mathias chopped down Division Three outsiders Oak Tree by hitting them for six as Premier Division side Rhosddu Celtic stormed through to the third round of the Shelley Cup in a 9-0 win.
Lethal Mathias' ran riot as Rhosddu put paid to any faint hopes of bottom-of-the-table Oak Tree making this the improbable occasion for their first win of the season. Matthew Nevitt, Andrew Szewczyk and Matthew Gibson edged Mathias aside long enough to pocket a goal apiece to complete the rout.
Air Products ace Darren Stretch wasn't far behind with five in their 7-2 romp against another Division Three outfit of similarly vulnerable timber, Royal Oak.
Two of Stretch's goals came from the penalty spot as Alan Hanlon and Andrew Dexter pocketed the others to deny Royal Oak's John Bellis and Carl Williams.
Past trophy holders Hand Hotel made light work of Division Two hosts Tritech as they progressed 6-1. Kevin Symons nabbed a consolation goal as Kevin Scott (2), Gary Penlington, John Holton, Gareth Jones and Tom Wheatley fired in.
New Inn Brynteg, heading the Division Two table, advanced their interest with a 4-2 victory over Merfyn's Miners, Leighton Roberts, Scott Andrews, Steve Keenan and an own goal securing their win while Golden Lion Coedpoeth needed a last-minute winner from two-goal hero Kevin Breeze to sink hosts Goulbourne in a near-upset for the Premier Division side.
Butch Evans and Gareth Rogers threatened to take the deadlock into extra-time before Breeze pounced to add to Chris Hughes' earlier goal.
Bersham were a goal up at Bradley Park through Robbie Brown with only 10 minutes to go but lost 4-1 after a stunning transformation. Jonathan Jones (2) and Jamie Cunnah (2) turned the tie on its head.
