RATES of MRSA and C.difficile infection have reduced in hospitals throughout the North West.
The latest report from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) says reports of MRSA infection fell by a third.
And reports of C.difficile in people aged 65 and older were 21% lower. Reports of C. difficile in patients aged 2-64 years were 12% lower.
Carol Kerr, nurse consultant with the Health Protection Agency’s Mid-Cheshire Health Protection Unit, said: “It’s heartening we appear to have halted an upward trend in C.difficile infection rates.
“The containment and reduction of Healthcare Associated Infections should continue to be given the highest priority.”
