THE eye department at Wrexham Maelor hospital held an open day yesterday.

It was a chance for GPs and opticians to show off the expansion and investment over the last four years.

The outpatients area has been extended with new, state-of-the-art clinical equipment installed in both the clinic areas and operating theatres and two new consultants have been appointed.

The day gave local primary care staff a chance to meet those working in the department to see the facilities available and gain a greater understanding of the range of care and treatment the department can now provide.

Consultant ophthalmic surgeon Kamal Sahni said: “In recent times there have been new and exciting developments in ophthalmology.

“I am proud to say that the eye department has embraced these developments and is equipped to the most modern standards for a district general hospital.”
