THE Hospice of the Good Shepherd has launched its annual Light up a Life appeal.
People can remember a friend or relative who has passed away by dedicating a light in their memory at the hospice or, for the first time, by floating a candlelit lily flower on the River Dee in Chester.
In return, the name of the person who has passed on will be included in special Books of Remembrance.
These will be dedicated at a Light up a Life service at the hospice and along the river taking place on December 5 and 12.
The events are open to all and will include readings and music by the Ellesmere Port Silver Band and the City of Chester Band.
“Last year, Light up a Life raised £50,000 which has helped us to improve the quality of life and ensure the dignity of people with incurable illnesses,” said Amanda Le Bretton, fundraising and marketing manager at the hospice.
Lynne Moorhead, a social worker at the hospice, added:“Whether you have a connection to the Hospice of the Good Shepherd or not, our Light up a Life appeal is here to help our community to celebrate fond memories and remember a loved one as winter draws near.”
Liz Bottrill, partner at SAS Daniels law firm in Chester, which is backing the appeal, said: “It’s impossible not to be humbled by the vital support which the Hospice of the Good Shepherd provides to families across Cheshire every day.
“We’ve chosen the hospice as our principal charity and will be doing all we can to support them in the future.”
