A MERCEDES used for drug dealing was seized by police after its owner was jailed for nearly four years.

More than £14,400 was also taken by police from John Jason Donoghue, 38, of Vernon Avenue, Hooton, under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Donoghue was convicted in July of supplying cocaine with a street value of £21,000 to a man in Port Sunlight, Merseyside.

He was sent to prison for three years and eleven months.

A hearing at Chester Crown Court on December 17 ordered that £14,423 which had been seized by Cheshire Police under the Proceeds of Crime Act should be confiscated and that a Mercedes C class Coupe should be forfeit, as a vehicle which was used in drug dealing.

Donaghue was one of a 14-strong gang of drug dealers from Ellesmere Port imprisoned following a 12-month police operation.

The sting, named Operation Wood, centred around career criminals and brothers Shaun and Anthony Gregerson who flooded the streets of the north west with cocaine.

Cocaine dealt by the gang is believed to have been adulterated – cut with mixing agents – from 60% purity to just 5% to maximise their profits.
