A CAMPAIGN to get a crossing on a road branded ‘dangerous’ after a girl’s leg was crushed by a car has attracted 500 supporters.

Petitions kept at the nearby Chimneys pub, The Hooton pub, Hooton Childcare nursery and Hooton Chase care home for people with learning disabilities have gathered 500 signatures.

On Tuesday, May 17, Katie Brown, 13, was walking to Hooton Green Play Area with two friends at about 5pm when she was hit by a car.

Three months later, Katie still has pins in her leg and they will stay for another six weeks as the bones heal slower than anticipated.

Patricia Brown, of Vernon Drive, Hooton, had hoped her daughter would be able to go back to school without the frame.

But as the new term approaches, it seems Katie will have to start year 9 with the pins.

Patricia said: “She had an X-ray on Wednesday and the bones are still smashed.

“They’ve given us a bone stimulator she has to use for 20 minutes each day, similar to an ultra-sound.”

Before the summer holidays, Katie had attended for just two hours a day because of health and safety concerns. But Patricia is hopeful she will be allowed to return full-time and study in a separate room.

Katie also sustained an injury to the head, which has produced a scar with a remarkable resemblance to the one Harry Potter bears on his forehead.

Patricia added: “We were calling her Harry Potter at the weekend! She laughed.

“It looks a bit red and I’ve been rubbing Bio Oil on to it.”

The family have managed a caravan holiday in Anglesey – where Katie had to get around in a wheelchair given by the Red Cross.
