AMBITIOUS plans to transform a furniture shop into a £300,000 mecca for clubbers could put a Crewe side street on the map for night time entertainment.
High Street already boasts a string of attractions including Steam Nightclub, Jesters Bar, Champions, the Apollo Cinema, Riley's Snooker Club, an Indian restaurant and several fast food outlets.
Now developer Lymehouse Ltd has applied for permission to transform the Cheshire Suite and Bed Centre into a trendy bar and restaurant.
And with a budget in excess of £300,000 the concept is to create a modern-style bar that plays cool jazz music in daylight time and puts on DJs in the evening.
Crewe and Nantwich planners are set to consider the scheme at a Development Control meeting in November.
A spokesman for Lymehouse Ltd said: 'We want to give Crewe town centre a bar similar to those found in big cities like Manchester, London and Liverpool.
We aim to construct a place that will be full of the right crowd without being crowded.'
The council is consulting with the police about the application and says it has not received any objection to date.
A council spokesman said: 'If any member of the public would like to make a representation about the proposal, please write to us by Monday October 29.'
Representations should be addressed to: Mr R Taylor, Environment and Development, Municipal Buildings, Earle Street, Crewe, CW1 2BJ.
