EXCITED teenager Tom Steele is heading Stateside to represent the UK after being nominated as an ambassador by one of his teachers at Woodford Lodge High School.
Tom, 16, who lives at Bowland Rise, Winsford, was nominated by business teacher Marie Rimmer to represent the UK as a Global Young Leader in Washington DC in July.
The Congressional Youth Leadership Council accepts only exceptional students from around the world to attend an educational programme to develop potential as a future leader.
The programme will enable Tom, Woodford Lodge’s head boy, to meet prominent men and women most people only read about in the news – and to venture into the complex and exciting world of global affairs and economics.
After being accepted Tom had to raise £5,000 to fund his trip, which will also take in the sights and sounds of New York City.
But thanks to support and sponsorship from school staff and organisations including Connexions, Winsford and Middlewich Rotary Clubs and Vale Royal Borough Council, his flights and accommodation are now booked.
Mrs Rimmer said: “It is so encouraging to know there are many young people out there who are a privilege to teach and work with and Tom is one of those young people.
“I am sure that one day he will represent the country as a strong leader. He is an outstanding young man.”
