IT was good to see Steve Roberts called into Tosh's first Wales side.

Yes, he was only there as cover for Danny Gabbidon, and yes he only got a few seconds, but at least it shows Big John is looking at him.

Steve has had a great season, and I'm sure bigger clubs are looking at him. In the past he's always flattered to deceive, but now - free of the injuries which have dogged him - he appears to be blossoming.

As Denis Smith keeps pointing out, he's young for a centre-half. But at 24, now is the time for him to make his move.

I think it's all to do with his haircut. Steve always seems very mild-mannered and pleasant. He reminded me of Kristian Rogers - you'd think he was a tennis player rather than a blood-and-guts defender.

You wanted him to shave his head, tattoo an expletive on his forehead and frighten strikers. While the tattoo is not forthcoming (hurry up Steve) he has hardened himself up.

We could do with a few goals from surprising places tomorrow.

This is a six-pointer. With MK Dons and Blackpool winning on Tuesday our position is worrying me.
