SUMMER gets into full swing this month with a range of exciting sports and music events taking place across the borough.

On Saturday, July 20, the Catalyst Science and Discovery Centre hosts Saturday Science lab presented by Dr Trevor Rhodes, who will be showing 11-14-year-olds how to build their own pinhole cameras.

The event runs from 11am-1pm and entry is free.

Places are limited and must be booked in advance on 0151 420 1121.

Later that day, the Norton Priory Walled Garden hosts a Jazz Night from 7.30-11pm.

A spokeswoman for the event said: “Come and dance the night away at an evening of high quality jazz in these beautiful surroundings.”

On July 23 and 30 budding Michael Jordans can receive expert tips from professional basketball coaches at training sessions held at Hough Green Park.

The sessions are free and run from 1-3pm for people age 10 and above. To book call 0151 907 8300.

On July 27 at Phoenix Park in Runcorn, a skating event is being hosted by Rampworx.

A spokesman, said: “We are having an under and over 16s skate jam in each category for inline, BMX and boards with great prizes for first, second and third in each category.

“Parental consent forms can be obtained from the office and must be completed and handed in at registration on the day for every competitor under the age of 16.”
