VULNERABLE Wrexham residents will be offered advice on dealing with bogus callers following a spate of distraction burglaries in the area.
Community beat managers PC Dave Evans and PC Mike Wilson will be patrolling the streets of Rhosddu, Garden Village and Smithfield, Caia Park, calling on householders with advice and information packs that will give residents some helpful hints on beating bogus callers.
The move comes after a number of distraction burglaries in Wrexham and just a week after offenders targeted the home of a pensioner and got away with a substantial sum.
'There is a variety of information in the packs from bodies such as trading standards, the Office of Fair Trading, Fire Service and, of course, the police,' said PC Evans.
'There are some valuable hints and tips about what you should do when you have an unexpected caller at your door.'
'Our advice to residents is stop before you go to open, check that all other doors are locked, and then ask who the caller is. Remember to put the keep the chain on the door when opening and check the true identity of the caller.
'If in doubt - keep them out!'
