DETERMINED marathon runners raising funds for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Backford are pulling out all the stops to bring in as much cash as possible.

Duane Thomas, landlord of the Straw Hat in Great Sutton, has really gone to town with his fundraising efforts at the pub, encouraging regulars with quiz nights and fun days.

He will also support the hospice with a street party to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Two employees from Unilever in Port Sunlight are also among the hospice runners.

Simon Morgan and Ezio Etzo have been fundraising in between their tough training regime with bag-packs at the local supermarket and corporate fundraising.

Ezio will be wearing a Shaun the Sheep outfit to run the 26.2 miles in London.

Firefighter Darren Roberts, who has worked on Greenwatch at Chester Fire Station for the past three years, organised a charity golf day at Upton Golf Club which was a huge success.

Regular supporters of the hospice Ian Williamson and Martin Jones have been encouraging people to support them through text donations and just giving.

Ian said: “Martin and I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of friends, family and business contacts.

“We are so excited about Sunday’s marathon, training has been difficult but well worth it, we are always up for a challenge. A big group of our family are travelling to London to support us so I am sure that will spur us.”

Last year Ian took part in a coast to coast bike challenge for the hospice.
