THE green-fingered wizards of Mid Cheshire have been rewarded for their spadework.

They shone in the Chronicle’s best garden competition sponsored by Bridgemere Garden World - and have now picked up their prizes.

The large garden winner is Elaine Hulm of Sandown Crescent, Cuddington, and the small garden winner is Virginia Perris of Mount Pleasant Road, Davenham.

Elaine’s garden caught the judges’ eyes because of its relaxed atmosphere, interesting combination of shapes and colours and because it is a delight to all ages, with corners to explore.

Virginia and her husband Roger have a tapered garden which abuts the village’s cricket ground.

A figure-of-eight lawn is surrounded by colourful borders which provide scents and sights to delight the senses.

The runners-up in the large garden section were: second Margaret Walley of Station Road, Delamere, and third Mr S Skellington of Tudor Close, Rudheath.

The runners-up in the small garden section were: second Katie Naylor of Malpas Road, Northwich, and third Arthur Lambert of Mount Pleasant Road, Davenham.

The winners each received £75 vouchers to spend at sponsor Bridgemere Garden World, with runners-up receiving £50 and £25 vouchers in each category.

Father Christmas arrives in style at Bridgemere Garden World on Saturday.

He will arrive at 10.30am in time to host his first grotto of the season at 11am, where his reindeer and sleigh will be on show.

The garden centre’s general manager Gary Kemp said: “Santa has such a lot of ground to cover to get around to seeing the millions of children who visit his grottos before Christmas so we’re very grateful he has been able to fit in a visit to us.

“The reindeer will remain at the garden centre all day until 4pm for visitors to see.”

During the event the garden centre will also be helping raise funds for the charity Cash for Kids.
