CHESHIRE West and Chester Council has unveiled a new horticulture competition called Something Blooming Special, which involves the whole of the borough.
A judging team will be awarding gold, silver gilt, silver and bronze awards in eight categories, including best front garden, best residential street or neighbourhood, best allotment, best hanging basket and best commercial or public premises.
The competition has been organised by the council’s Greenspace officers and is sponsored by Burleydam Nurseries.
“This contest builds on the success of the local Chester in Bloom competition and gives everyone in the borough the opportunity to make their area a more pleasant place to live and visit,” said Cllr Eleanor Johnson, the lead member for taking the competition forward.
“Different categories are assessed by a team of local judges on specific criteria using a variation on the three key pillars of the Royal Horticultural Society In Bloom campaign – horticultural excellence, environmental responsibility and community participation.
“I am sure that this competition is going to be very popular and urge everyone with ‘green fingers’ to apply.”
Application forms can be obtained by emailing greenspace@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk or calling Bernie Flexen on 01606 288543. Photographs must be attached to the completed forms and entries must be in by July 7. Judging will take place by the end of July.
