A MARATHON cycle event around Britain’s coastline will be coming through Neston.

The village is one of the 64 stages of The Great Tour – a 6,500km event taking place from July to September.

The tour will start on July 3 in Seaton, Devon and wind its way anti-clockwise around the coastline ending back in Seaton on September 4.

Riders will average a 103km each day taking in every seaside port, village, town, cove and bay along every kilometre of coastline accessible by bicycle.

The tour will cycle from Preston to Neston on Sunday, August 15 and will set off towards Conwy the next day.

People can take part for free, to cycle the entire route, take part as a team or take part the day it comes through our area.

The group of riders will be fully supported by a team of experts and led by Olympian Daley Thompson and the ultra long distance cyclist Jim Rees.

The tour is being promoted as a celebration of the British coastline as well as a charity ride supporting The Prostrate Cancer Charity and Caravan – The National Grocers Benevolent Fund.

The event is in addition to the Tour Series Race which will be coming to Chester on June 21.
