A BIG-HEARTED woman from Great Sutton has kept a promise she made to her mother.

Rachael Dickson, 29, from Great Sutton, cycled 18km on Sunday in her mum’s memory for the care a hospice gave to her entire family.

She joined 130 participants in Chester Cycle to raise funds for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, where her mum, Jo Dickson, was a patient.

Rachael said: “I committed to do the bike ride several months ago whilst watching TV with my mum. When mum passed away it made me even more determined to do it and raise as much money as possible for the local hospice.

“I have already raised £320 and still have other sponsors to add to my list.

“Places like the hospice in Backford are magic and invaluable I believe it is vital that we all ‘do our bit’ as you never know when you may need their support.”

The event started at the University of Chester and cyclists of all ages and abilities were cheered along the route by onlookers as they pedalled the 18km.

Everyone was in high spirits during one of the warmest days of the week.

The Chester Cycle has so far raised £10,000 for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, which will go directly toward patient care for local people.

Fundraiser Justin Caroe said: “It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying themselves on a Sunday morning to help the hospice and we are looking at a sponsored bike ride again next year on Sunday, June 9, but with two choices of route.

“A special thanks to everyone who took part and also our volunteers who helped us on the day.”
