A sports physiotherapist from Whitby is proving he is talented at tailoring after making it to the penultimate episode of the Great British Sewing Bee.

Paul Clarke, 54, survived the double elimination in the last episode on Thursday, February 26, and is one of five remaining contestants vying to be named best amateur sewer.

Paul, who has been sewing for more than 30 years after learning from his mother as a child, won Garment of the Week in the second episode, after wowing judges with his fun ballerina elephant costume for a children’s fancy dress challenge.

An avid collector of elephant memorabilia, Paul said it was the best choice for him to design and he was thrilled the judges liked it.

He added: “I’ve really enjoyed all the weeks and everything we have done.

“We have been challenged but we’ve all just got on with it.”

During his time on the six-part BBC2 show, he’s shown his skills by making items including a glittered denim kilt and a skirt out of 1950s curtains.

The next episode will air at 8pm on Thursday, March 5.
