AN UNUSED area of school land has been transformed into a £15,000 play area.
Childer Thornton Primary School opened their new Tawny Trail last week after weeks of hard work.
The official launch for families and the community to see will take place at the school’s centenary celebrations at 3pm, on June 28.
Having secured a grant of £14,960, Suzy Young from DHL and volunteers from DHL in Liverpool worked tirelessly with Ray Parry and Groundworks North West to transform the once unloved area into a play area with musical apparatus, wigwam, traverse wall and more.
Suzy Young, of The Tawny Trail project, said: “We couldn’t have done this by ourselves. The money would have taken such a long time to raise and having so many volunteers, as well as Groundwork’s experience, made the transformation go so smoothly.”
Transform It! is a new £200,000 programme from the DHL UK Foundation providing grants to improve community facilities across the country.
Charities and not-for-profit community groups are working with DHL volunteers to initiate projects which will result in physical improvements benefiting children and young people. Supported by experts from environmental charity Groundwork, DHL employees are working in their communities to make a difference.
Applications from DHL staff for grants of £5,000-£15,000 are considered by the Foundation. Once approved, Groundwork UK helps with the research, design and delivery of the project.
Gina King of DHL said: “Transform It! has really lived up to its name. The improvement to children’s lives brought about by the project. Now 200 local children can play in a safe area.”
