STAFF from the Matalan store in Island Green have presented a cheque for £1,000 to the children's ward at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
The money was raised through an in-store raffle of a giant teddy bear and will be used to purchase games, CDs and activities equipment for older patients on the ward.
Sister Krystyna Sutkowski explained that it is important to cater for the needs of all patients on the ward.
'Being stuck on a hospital ward for any length of time can become tedious and this is especially so for children. We have a magnificent play area on the ward which is well equipped with toys, games and puzzles which are ideal for our younger patients. However this is obviously not suitable for our older patients and we need to make sure that we have age-appropriate facilities for teenagers.
'This money will allow us to introduce additional facilities for this group of patients and hopefully will help relieve any periods of boredom during their stay on the ward.
'We must thank the staff at Matalan for organising the raffle and all their customers who supported it.'
