ONE of the toughest challenges in golf took place on Saturday at Ellesmere Port Golf Club.

Two teams representing Quinn Glass completed the longest day golf challenge 2012 to see if they had what it takes to play 72 holes, hit more than 300 shots and walk more than 25 miles – all in one day.

They managed to raise about £2,500 for the charity.

The event was organised by Dave Sewell, who is employed at Quinn Glass and is a member of the Ellesmere Port Golf Club.

He decided to undertake the challenge after seeing it being promoted by the Macmillan organisation.

He said: “As soon as I noticed it being promoted I suggested the idea to friends and work colleagues, who had no hesitation in agreeing to join me.

“Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer.

“One in three of us may get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face, so by the players giving a little bit of their time in achieving this arduous challenge, as well as all the support received from Brio Golf Centre Ellesmere Port, Quinn Glass, Mid-shire Catering and all the people who kindly sponsored us, they have helped reach people suffering with this disease by ensuring that essential medical, practical, emotional and financial support from Macmillan is available to those people.

“So a few blisters, aches and pains have all been worthwhile.”
