WREXHAM reserves held out for victory over Bury yesterday thanks to goals from Jamie Reed and Josh Johnson.

But there was bad news for the Dragons when striker Reed strained ligaments in his troublesome ankle, which has kept him out of contention recently.

The 19-year-old will miss tomorrow night’s vital relegation showdown with the Shakers at the Racecourse – and likely to join him on the sidelines is right-back Simon Spender, who picked up a dead leg in yesterday’s win.

Wrexham will move level on points with Bury tomorrow night if they can repeat the reserves’ victory, which saw the Dragons hold on for the win despite Jake Speight pulling one back for the home side with five minutes left.

Reed had given the visitors an 11th-minute lead when he finished from close range after former Charlton player Mike Carvill’s shot had been parried by ex-Northern Ireland international Alan Fettis.

Substitute Johnny Hunt had a chance to double the lead but rattled the crossbar after Marc Williams’ effort was only half cleared.

Johnson made it two when he lobbed Fettis after racing on to an inch-perfect pass from midfielder Andy Fleming.

From the restart Bury’s Jordan Stepien set up Speight, who side-footed home from inside the six-yard box, but Wrexham held on for victory.
