NESS Botanic Gardens is among the Cheshire tourist attractions vying to be named the best in the North West.

They will battling it out at the fifth annual England’s Northwest Tourism Awards tonight (Wednesday).

The event, organised by the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) and hosted by interior designer and television personality Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, will be held at Liverpool’s St George’s Hall.

England’s Northwest Tourism Awards recognise excellence within the tourism industry and reward both group and individual achievement over the past year.

In addition to receiving a title and trophy, regional winners will have the opportunity to represent the Northwest in the national awards, organised by VisitBritain in April 2009.

Felicity Goodey, chair of Tourism England’s Northwest said: “The awards have set a very high benchmark for the industry over the past few years, with many of our winners going on to triumph at the national awards.

“We know we have some of the UK’s best tourism businesses here in the region and these awards recognise and reward the leaders in what is a highly competitive industry.

“These businesses are delivering the highest quality experience for our visitors, making this region an increasingly popular visitor destination.”

Chris Brown, chief executive of Visit Chester and Cheshire, said: “Once again standards are high and competition is fierce at this year’s awards. I congratulate each and every one of the Cheshire finalists for reaching this stage.

“Their determination to raise the bar and be the best is an inspiration to all those in the industry and deserves to be recognised and rewarded. I wish them all the best of luck.”
