AN ALLOTMENT scheme is flourishing after suffering from vandalism thanks to a cash boost by Weaver Vale Housing Trust.
Gardeners at the Queensgate allotment scheme at Castle, Northwich, planted hawthorn saplings around the perimeter to deter intruders after receiving £350 from the Trust’s Community Assistance Fund.
The application for the Community Assistance grant for the saplings came after the allotment scheme suffered vandalism and other anti-social behaviour on the site.
Helen Bedford, secretary for the allotment scheme, said: “The allotment scheme is extremely grateful to Weaver Vale Housing Trust for providing the funding for the hedging.
“I hope now the new hedging is complete it will make the area more secure and create a nicer environment for the allotment scheme members to enjoy.”
The Community Assistance Fund was set up to support organisations that help make a difference to the neighbourhoods in which Weaver Vale Housing Trust operates.
