A GARDEN centre is still open for business – despite a change of management style.
That’s the positive message from David Yardley, director of group operations at Klondyke Group, which runs Sycamore Park in Great Sutton.
He was reacting to spurious rumours that the much-loved and well-used cafe at the Chester Road business was about to close.
Mr Yardley said: “I can categorically say we are not going to close the cafe.
“All we are doing is changing the management, so it is now going to be run in-house instead. That’s all.
“So I want to dispel any rumours to the contrary. The cafe is staying, we are just making it better than ever.
“We recognise it is very popular with our customers, and we like the fact that many use it as a community facility as well as a normal cafe.”
The garden centre has had a turbulent past. At Christmas 2005 it was earmarked for closure as plans for 60 homes on the site were unveiled.
But the resulting story in the Pioneer prompted hundreds of angry neighbours to object to the borough council and sign a petition calling for it to be saved.
