RESUBMITTED plans for a large canopy at a green belt garden centre are to be probed at an appeal.
The application was put forward at Gordale Nurseries in Chester High Road, Burton.
Borough council planning officers were told the canopy, measuring 24m by 30m and six metres in height, would be erected at the rear of the nursery. It would be used for bedding plants and pots.
The nursery argued there were very special circumstances to justify the canopy and the high-quality garden centre was a success story for Ellesmere Port and Neston which should be supported.
But in a detailed report, planning officers argued the canopy would affect the openness of the nurseries.
Planning permission was refused on green belt grounds on a casting vote. The application will now go to an inspector at an inquiry.
