DENBIGHSHIRE'S Cabinet has given the green light to an advance payment of £150,000 towards the cost of staging the 2006 Urdd National Eisteddfod in the county.
At its meeting in Llangollen, the cabinet agreed the allocation with immediate effect, with negotiations to continue about the amount and timing of the remainder within the agreed £300,000 allocation, and clarify any 'in-kind' support requested.
The cream of the nation's young talent will gather in Ruthin for the major event, taking place on land at Ysgol Brynhyfryd, Maes Llan Farm and Whitegates.
To help support the Urdd with preparations for the Eisteddfod, as well as staging the actual event, the Urdd has requested the allocation of the specific grant over a two-year period.
Cllr Sue Roberts, cabinet lead member for Promoting Denbighshire, said: 'We are delighted the Urdd is coming to Denbighshire. It will give us a great opportunity to welcome people to the county and it will be a platform for us to show the rest of Wales what the region has on offer.
'We have shown our commitment by allocating this immediate payment to help organisers with the job of planning this event and look forward to working with the Urdd to provide a warm welcome in the Denbighshire hillsides.'
