A CHURCH is launching a campaign to raise enough money to fund a £134,000 roof replacement.

St Lawrence’s in Stoak will launch its fundraising drive on Saturday, July 21, with an event attended by the sheriff of Chester.

The day will include live music and a hog roast.

The church plans to install a time capsule in the rafters, forming a vivid picture of life in the area today and putting it all on a computer hard drive for future generations to discover.

Church campaigners have put in various funding applications and is hopeful it will receive grants to help pay for the new roof, but believe they need to raise about £60,000 of their own money.

English Heritage has already allocated some cash on the basis the church raises the rest.

In September a male voice choir will sing and there will be smaller events throughout the year, with large events happening monthly.

Tickets for the event on Saturday, July 21, which starts at 4pm, are £10.
