THE struggle to raise awareness of elderly abuse inspired big-hearted pensioners to turn out in force for a special fundraising event.
Residents from Ferndale Court care home in Widnes took part in a sponsored wheelchair ride to Victoria Park and back again while collecting much needed cash along the way.
And thanks to their efforts and the deep pockets of family and friends, the group managed to raise hundreds of pounds for the charity Action on Elderly Abuse.
Kay Murray, activities co-ordinator at Ferndale, said: “We’re still counting the money but we’ve raised a couple of hundred at least which is brilliant.
“The group really enjoyed the day, they had a packed lunch and met the mayor too!”
