A club in Frodsham which helps elderly people fulfil more active lives and combat loneliness is celebrating its first birthday.

Frodsham Opal Club (Older People Active Lives) have hit their first milestone and celebrated in style.

The group gives its 13 members the chance to get together at regular meetings as well as planning days out and exercise sessions to stay active.

Opal club organiser Zoe Blocksidge said: “It’s been a fantastic year, we’ve come from nothing to have all these members and volunteers.

“The members are all really enjoying it.

“There are obviously building up a lot of health benefits by doing all these activities and tackling loneliness among the elderly is very beneficial too.”

More than 40 guests attended the first birthday party, including mayor of Frodsham Fran Sutton.

Zoe said the club had raised £1,240 charity, taken part in 73 quizzes and had a day out at Eaton Hall courtesy of the Duke of Westminster all in its first year.
