BUDDING golfers are being offered a free lesson in Wrexham this month.

Wrexham County Borough Council, The Welsh Sports Council and Golf Development Wales are offering everyone, from toddlers to grandparents, the opportunity to take up a free golf lesson, including equipment hire, at Clays Golf Centre, Wrexham, on Saturday, January 31.

The lesson will celebrate last year’s success of the “Golf Roots” project and the breaking of the world record for the most people taking part in a golf lesson taught in unison.

Golf Roots has helped many people from the Wrexham area get involved in golfing and has changed people’s perception of the sport.

It has given players the opportunity to progress in the game and has created sustainable golf projects benefiting the community across Wrexham.

Chief libraries, leisure and culture officer, Alan Watkin, said: “We are delighted to have held this Golf Roots programme in Wrexham.

“All the children that have taken part, plus their older siblings, parents, teachers and Wrexham County Borough Council joined in together! Now we are offering everyone the chance to take up a free golf lesson – everyone should give it a go.”

Since the success of the world record attempt, Wrexham County Borough Council have been at the forefront of a national project to introduce thousands of urban youngsters to golf and the sport’s positive benefits.

Deputy leader Bob Dutton said: “We are pleased to be offering everyone from Wrexham the opportunity to take up a free golf lesson and I encourage people of all ages to take part.”
