A SCHEME inviting cat owners to get their pets neutered for free has been launched by the South Wirral branch of Cats Protection.

The initiative is aimed at people who live in the postcode areas CH60-66 and receive benefits or are on a low income.

Volunteers work hard to find loving homes for every feline that comes into their care but the charity is keen to encourage the neutering of cats and kittens as this is the best way to ensure there will be fewer unwanted animals in the future.

The South Wirral branch says a neutered cat is less likely to spray, roam and fight.

It also helps guard against life-threatening illnesses as fighting cats are most at risk of transmitting diseases through biting and saliva.
