A FILMMAKER has given an insight into work at her stop-motion animation company.

Linda McCarthy paid a visit to Glyndr University to talk to graduates about her Tiny Elephants company and the Small Birds Singing project at the Creative Futures event.

The former NEWI student, who now lives in Saughall, on the outskirts of Chester, graduated with a BA in animation in 2007.

Linda said: “I told the students all about setting up my own company, making the first film, which was a very difficult and time consuming process and the production, including the lighting and how to make the puppets.

“Small Birds Singing is a series of films focusing on the Unbelievable family, who live in an English country house with plenty of quirky and surreal events.”

She added: “There are tiny elephants who dust underneath tables and cupboards!

“The work is all self-funded, it was some- thing I wanted to invest into with a view to hopefully bring in an income.”

The series is a 3D stop-motion adaptation of the Small Birds Singing cartoon strip from Steven Appleby, Linda’s cousin, which featured in the Times for eight years.

Small Birds Singing has also been featured in several film festivals.

Linda added: “It was a wonderful feeling to have the series screened.

“The most positive highlight was the Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

“It has also been shown at the Bradford animation festival at their Media Museum.”

Linda is now aiming to complete production of the next Small Birds Singing short film The Grand Easter Egg Hunt early this month.
