EX-CORONATION STREET star Adam Rickitt has described the idea of standing for the Conservative party in his Cheshire home town as "lovely".

The 27-year-old, who played Nicky Tilsley in Coronation Street before having a pop career, is currently living with his parents in Cuddington, Cheshire, while trying to find a seat to stand in at the next general election.

He has been included in Conservative leader David Cameron's A-list of elite candidates for winnable seats.

But he has denied courting Eddisbury and Chester party members in the hope they will choose him as their next candidate.

He said: "The idea of standing in my home constituency of Eddisbury would be lovely, but we have got a fantastic MP [Stephen O'Brien] here and I don't see him leaving any time soon.

"It is a case of finding an appropriate seat for me. It is a long drawn-out process and it is entirely up to the local constituency communities to decide if I am the right person."
